e-mail and Internet use can lead to major problems.
Computers can become infected by viruses and be out of use for hours or even days. Staff may waste time surfing the net. And legal issues may arise from inappropriate web sites being viewed on your computers or viruses and offensive material being sent by e-mail to your organisation's valued contacts. It can all be an administrative nightmare.

Anti-virus
OMC recommends AVG Anti-Virus software; it's lightweight, i.e. when it comes to using system resources, you hardly know it's there, but it's effective. In our experience, it hasn't missed one yet. AVG also comes in a very cost-effective network edition which runs well on SBS2003

Spyware
We recommend Ad-aware as the most effective means of removing adware, spyware, hijacks and other assorted malware from your system. As with anti-virus software, keep up to date with definitions and scan regularly - at least once per week.

Backups
We're often asked, "how often should we backup?". Well, you know the answer to this question better than we do; after all, how much work can you afford to lose and re-input?
One day? Two days? A week?

If your resources can cope, normal backups are preferable to differential or incremental; data are more important than system files (though don't forget the email folders); and copies of backups must always leave the premises.
